📋 Overview

PM Ujjwala Yojana is a welfare scheme by the Indian government that provides free LPG (cooking gas) connections to women from poor households. It was launched to replace the use of biomass fuels like wood, coal and dung cakes with clean cooking fuel. The scheme has drastically reduced indoor air pollution in rural India. As of 2026, over 9 crore free LPG connections have been distributed under this scheme.

👤 Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must be a woman aged 18 years or above. The family must belong to BPL (Below Poverty Line) category. There should be no existing LPG connection in the household at the time of application. Families from SC/ST, PM Awas Yojana beneficiaries, SECC-2011 listed households, Antyodaya Anna Yojana card holders and forest-dwelling tribal communities are eligible. No existing LPG connection should be registered in the family's address.

• BPL Ration Card or any state-issued BPL certificate
• Bank account details of the woman applicant
• Proof of address (voter ID or Ration Card)
• Passport size photograph
• Self-declaration for no existing LPG connection

🚀 How to Apply

1. Visit the nearest LPG distributor (HP Gas, Bharat Gas or Indane)
2. Collect the PMUY application form (Form KYC1) from the distributor
3. Fill in the form with personal details and bank account information
4. Attach all required documents including Aadhaar and BPL proof
5. Submit the completed form to the LPG distributor
6. After verification, the LPG connection is approved and delivered
