Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a small savings scheme launched under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative. It is designed to secure the financial future of the girl child in India. The account offers one of the highest interest rates among government savings schemes – currently 8.2% per annum for 2024–25. The scheme also provides tax benefits under Section 80C. Parents or guardians can open the account in a girl's name until she turns 10 years of age.

👤 Eligibility Criteria

The account can be opened by a parent or legal guardian on behalf of a girl child. The girl must be below 10 years of age at the time of account opening. Only two accounts are allowed per family – one for each girl child. In case of twins or triplets, an exception is made. The account must be opened before the girl turns 10 years old. NRI girls are not eligible for this scheme.

  2. Request the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana account opening form
  3. Fill in the form with girl child's details and guardian information
  4. Attach the girl's birth certificate and guardian's ID proof
  5. Make the minimum deposit of ₹250 (or more)
  6. The account passbook is issued after verification
  7. You can also link SSY account to your net banking for online deposits
